What is Winter Guard?
|
Winter guard is the sport of indoor color guard. Modern color guard is a combination of the use of flags, sabers, wooden rifles, and other equipment, as well as dance and interpretive movement. Instead of performing with a marching band, winter guards perform indoors on a gym floor to recorded music. Many use elaborate backdrops to enhance the story and emotions they're trying to express. Winter Guard now exists in the United States, Canada, Belgium, Holland, Germany, England, Ireland, Korea, Japan, and Africa. |
Who We AreThe Elmwood Park Crusaders Winter Guard is based in Elmwood Park, NJ, and is open to both middle and high school students who are interested in discovering the sport of the arts. Our instructor is Ms Athena Amato, has had experience performing with both Scholastic and Independent winter guards.
The program is still in it's infancy, 2016 being the rekindling of Elmwood Park's once award winning winter guard. As novices, the new members are learning the fundamentals of spinning and movement, and will be taking part in competitions in the Mid- Atlantic Indoor Network (MAIN) circuit, Winter guard is a place where students can find their confidence and build long lasting friendships. While we do compete, our biggest goal is to have fun, and to walk away from each practice and performance with a feeling of accomplishment. |
